Bootcamps vs. College

In this article[^] the author discusses the relative pros and cons of hiring someone who has attended a bootcamp (a short but intensive course) versus a college graduate. Like everything in life, neither is simply better than the other as it depends on what you are looking for.

First off, neither is likely to have much (if any) real-world industry experience, so on that basis they are evenly matched. If you are looking for a solid programmer, and are not necessarily looking for them to rise up the career ladder into more technical positions, then a bootcamper would be an ideal choice. If however, you are looking for someone with a greater depth of skills (particularly theoretical skills) who will contribute more in the future, then a college graduate is an ideal choice.

What the bootcamper may lack in theoretical knowledge they make up for in practical knowledge.

The choice between the bootcamper and the college graduate depends on what you are looking for. It would be unfair to say that one is better than the other as that simply wouldn't be true. As usual, context is important.
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare
